On Saturday, March 4, 2005, the Deacons of our church sponsored a “Cabin Fever Pizza Party,” for our congregation, neighboring congregations, and everyone else in our local community. We wanted to do something to lift the spirits of our people, who had been confined to the safety of their homes, during the winter snow. While getting together with friends over pizza is enjoyable, we wanted them to have a special experience, and decided we needed special entertainment.

We have had many musical groups at our church for events in the past, but this time we wanted to do something different. Therefore, I went on the internet and searched for a Christian musical group, and found CHALICE. And what a great find it was! Although I had heard clips of their music online, I never heard them in person, nor had anyone else in the Deacons, or in our congregation. We threw caution to the wind, and booked them for our party.

The day of our party, the members of CHALICE came into our church and endeared themselves to all who attended, through their warm personalities and wonderful music. It was a very casual atmosphere, as the audience was invited to join in whenever the spirit moved them. And, the spirit moved them quite often.

Those in attendance loved the music, and asked that we schedule CHALICE again. Church members who were not present for the party were told of the wonderful group they missed, and they too, have asked us to bring them back. And, we will.

If you are looking for an uplifting, spiritual, lively program, then I highly recommend you schedule CHALICE.

Sincerely, Barbara Diller, President CPC Deacons
Central Presbyterian Church, Tarentum, PA

Lou and Kris Rhoades of The Well Ministries have been serving Mars Hill Baptist Church for several years in various capacities. The musical group Chalice has ministered to us on several of our monthly Singspiration services. Chalice has also exclusively provided music ministry at our Revival Week Services held in April 2003.

Puppets for the King, also part of The Well Ministries, have delighted our children and visitors at the concluding program of Vacation Bible School for many years.

Kris Rhoades is a talented writer and speaker. Several of our members have attended speaking engagements and workshops at different churches that Kris has been invited to. She and her husband, Lou, have also filled the pulpit at our Sunday worship services on several occasions.

Lou and Kris have a genuine gift of ministry based on biblical truth. The theme running through all of The Well Ministries programs is biblical truth! They are on fire for the Lord and willingly serve whether it’s through music, puppets, or individually in front of a congregation.

Sincerely, Loretta Thomas, Music Ministry Coordinator
Mars Hill Baptist Church, Irwin, PA

Please allow me to take this opportunity to recommend to you the musical ministry of Chalice.

It has been my pleasure to be aware of this ministry since its inception. Over the years I have seen Chalice minister in a number of venues. Whether it is in a church service or a nursing home, Chalice seeks to bring the reality of Jesus Christ through song and testimony. Chalice not only has a high level of excellence in their music but also a high level of excellence in ministering to the spiritual needs of their hearers.

The individual members of Chalice are active in their own churches in leadership positions. Each member of Chalice has taken responsible roles in the body of Christ. The church backgrounds of the members are diverse. This diversity allows the group to minister beyond walls that can divide. Their strength is a great desire to see people touched by the powerful message of Jesus Christ.

I recommend Chalice to you wholeheartedly.

Respectfully, Rev. Robert A. Fagin
First Church of the Open Bible, McKeesport, PA

I just want you to know how blessed we were by your ministry and music during our Adult Winter Retreat. The way in which you can lead and serve is an obvious reflection of who you are in your walk with the Lord. Your music wonderfully combines traditional and contemporary genres to offer alive and meaningful worship and praise. As gifted as you are as performers, the blessing is the way you transcend performance to genuine ministry. During our retreat I felt that we became part of you and you became part of us.

How pleased I was then, when you led worship here at Port Vue United Methodist Church for our February Sunday evening “reJOYce” service. Again, it felt as if we have known each other and worshipped together for years. I think that is a tribute to the warmth of your love in Christ. I know God is blessing you, yet I pray for continued abundance in your ministry. I look forward with anticipation to my next opportunity to work and worship with Chalice.

Excerpts of letters:

I am currently incarcerated in the State Correctional Institution at Cresson. My cellmate and I were given The Well to read from a man who is also a Christian. My cellmate and I enjoyed this so much we would love to be put on the free mailing list. At this time our finances are not good, which is to say, we both are living day by day, but when things pick up I will try to send you a donation. — Cresson, PA

I just want to write you a short note to say thank you. I believe reading The Well has changed my life. I hope it will do the same for other people. — Santa Fe, TX

I love your magazine. It has brought joy and peace to me during my trials and tribulation. It helps to keep me focussed. Please don’t stop. Will be praying for you. — Hunker, PA

Such a meaningful little booklet. I’ve already shared some of the stories at our church gatherings as well as friends and neighbors. This truly is a blessing! — Derry, PA

Today, as I entered my office, I was handed a booklet. After placing this booklet in my bag; I had a moment to myself, and decided to read “The Well.” What an inspiration! Please add my name to receive a free subscription by mail to “The Well.” — Bridgeville, PA

I was able to pick up only a couple of your publications at the helping Hands Store in Stoneboro, PA. I don’t get there on a regular basis and have not been able to get out in the last 3 months. I really did enjoy the 2 publications that I got. If you and ANY back issues, I would like to have them as I have been nearly completely homebound and am a Sr. Citizen. I am sending a small donation to help cover postage. Thank you for your help. I will be looking forward to receiving any and all publications. — Mercer, PA

I have enjoyed your “The Well” magazine. I have even used sections of it for devotions for our ladies group, The Mary Martha Joy Fellowship. I share it with everyone I can. I have even sent it out of state to loved ones. It is the most uplifting magazine I have read since David Wilkerson newsletter. I now want a years subscription sent to my son in prison and a friend’s son in prison. Thank you and I pray that God continues to use you in this mighty work that He has set before you. — Grindstone, PA

Just a note to let you know how wonderful your publication is! I enjoy “The Well” so much and find each issue an inspiration. We are all fortunate and blessed that you responded when God called – please pray that I may do the same! — Butler, PA

Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy reading The Well. They go like hotcakes at my church. I put out 60 and the Prison Ministry took the rest. Everyone is appreciative of the work you are doing. God Bless You! — McKeesport, PA

Your publication is excellent. I have read it twice and now sending it on to my church to be passed among members . . . Enjoy every issue of your magazine. Keep up the good work. I share copies with friends in nursing homes and my home church. — Allentown, PA

Our sincere thanks for your willingness to be a part of our ministry, Lakeview Area Helping Hands Center, Inc. We are distributing “The Well” in every food box that goes out of here, as well as having it available in our lobby and reception area to anyone that ventures in. My Sunday School Class at the Clarks Mills UM Church, The Christian Family, are enjoying it and passing it on to their family members and friends. Please put me on your distribution list. We are delighted and priviledged to be a small part in your ministry. — Stoneboro, PA

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Hope your day is going fine! The Calvary Church Family is sending a donation to help defray the cost for the publication “The Well.” We enjoy receiving them very much and is an uplifting outreach to our church and to the un-churched. God Bless You and thanks for letting God use you. — McKeesport, PA

I know this is a little late, but I wanted to talk to our “Keenagers” after they had time to read “The Well.” Our meeting was last Thursday. They all raised their hands when asked if they enjoyed this booklet. Some said they had read it over twice and was sending it to children and relatives out of state. Needless to say they sure were happy to receive the September issue. I also gave a copy to our friends visiting us from New York. I am enclosing a little to help. Can’t do much but pray God will bless and multiply for His glory. Thanks agian for sending “The Well.” — North Huntingdon, PA

I have been blessed by the two copies of The Well that I came across at Family Bookstores. I am going through a lot of “testing” right now, and I am literally holding onto the Lord by my fingernails – and they are getting worn down. The articles really lifted my spirits. — Duquesne, PA

Such a meaningful little booklet. Already I’ve shared osme of the stories at our church gatherings as well as friends and neighbors. This truly is a blessing! The article on Halloween and the meaning of its symbols really “raised eyebrows” when I read it to some of the celebrants. — Derry, PA

The Christmas 1999 edition blessed me greatly and I cried throughout the entire book. Please don’t ever stop publishing it. — Venetia, PA

God bless you in your venture. I put the copies you sent in our Nursing Home hallway and they disappeared. I enjoyed them very much and pray for your success to continue. Just passed my 92 birthday so time takes it’s toll. God bless you. — Medford, Oregon

Just read The Well and was interested in the information you had concerning Halloween. I find this booklet to be very interesting and would enjoy one each month. — Pittsburgh, PA

Just a note to tell you how much I enjoy this booklet “packed” with such wonderful stories & things! I’m looking forward to receiving it to my home and “Beauty” Salon. My customers are reading it! Praise God! — Wilkes-Barre, PA

I am remitting you this letter in reference to you sending me a copy of The Well. A friend showed me the Well and I was very inspired by all of the material that was in the Well. I am indigent and I would deeply appreciate it if you would add my name to your mailing list for the Well. I would like to thank you for all of your efforts in this matter. I will be looking forward to receiving your reply and thank you very much once again. I would deeply appreciate it if you would keep me in your prayers. — Cresson, PA

I have appreciated “The Well” so much. I hope my little donation will help with “The Well.” Our prayers are with you every day. — Johnstown, PA

I am writing to request 100 copies of your publication to distribute to my neighborhood. By the way, The Well is a terrific piece of Christian literature. — Belle Vernon, PA
