Well, it has finally happened. The bus is ours! We went last week and transferred the title and registered the plate and moved it here to our house this weekend. There were some complications with the deal but we prayed through them and God finally made the way for it to happen.

Lou and Steven had been tearing down our carport to make room for it to stay here at our house. It was a two week project, working all hours of the day and night. Lots of lumber moved out of here too. One good things was that we didn’t have to haul the debris very far and it didn’t cost us anything to dispose of it. One of our neighbors took the leftover wood to burn in his furnace. Steven made about six trips across the street with a dolly filled with lumber. We used the leftover bricks to fill in some areas behind the driveway in case we have to extend the driveway back more later for the bus to fit better.
I was really worried that it wouldn’t fit in the space we had. Measuring and re-measuring said it should fit. But should fit and does fit are two different things. Well, praise the Lord! As you can see in this picture, it did fit! Now the next problem to overcome is to make it fit to the city ordinances. That means it needs to come back another 20 feet! And as you can see by the above picture the back of the bus is touching the railing of our deck. We figured we’d cross that bridge if or when it happens. As long as the neighbors don’t complain we shouldn’t have a problem.
Lou and Steven have been trying to remove the vinyl lettering that is on the bus from the previous group. But in the cold weather it is harder to come off. They have to use a heat gun to warm the vinyl and peel it off with their fingernails as to not scratch the plastic underneath. Then we’ll be able to put our name in those spots.
Gary’s been the driver so far because he was the one with the most experience driving large vehicles and he had training in using air brakes. But Lou and Keith plan to learn to drive it too. I’m not the least bit interested in learning to drive it. I’ll be quite happy being a passenger.
The biggest hurdle to overcome about keeping it here was backing it into the driveway. The first day we moved it here Gary was able to back it in in only 2 swings and the second time he got it in on the first try!
Next week the remodeling inside will begin.
Stop back for more updates on the bus. We’ve got some great things planned including a fundraiser concert on April 14th (place TBA) and a “name the bus” contest. We also have a “bus wish list” of things we’ll need for the remodeling.
If you want to help with the expenses of the bus, mail your tax deductible donation to:

But most of all we could use your prayers!
